Fredericksburg

Fredericksburg, located in the very heart of the beautiful Texas Hill Country, is a blend of German heritage and Texan hospitality. This historic town, settled by Germans in 1846, is roughly 70 miles west of Austin, the state capital, and approximately 65 miles northwest of San Antonio, home to the legendary Alamo.

Fredericksburg's historic buildings have been converted into boutiques, art galleries and antique emporiums. The town is also home to the National Museum of the Pacific War. Near Fredericksburg you'll also find a large wildflower farm and many of Texas' wineries.

Belle Notte
This home was built in 1906 by the William Rauch family and is located only 1/2 block off Main Street and all of the shops. It has been converted into two beautiful bed and breakfast suites. We stayed in the Toscana suite.

National Museum of the Pacific War
The National Museum of the Pacific War is the only institution in the continental United States dedicated exclusively to telling the story of the Pacific Theater battles of World War II. Located on a nine-acre site, the Center includes the George Bush Gallery, Admiral Nimitz Museum, Plaza of Presidents, Veterans' Walk of Honor, Japanese Garden of Peace, Pacific Combat Zone, and the Center for Pacific War Studies.

A second trip to Fredericksburg is needed to fully experience this museum. You could easily spend an entire day there. We gave up after a few hours and didn't even see half of it!

Wildseed Farms
Wildseed Farms is the nation's largest working wildflower seed farm.

Luckenbach, Texas

Let's go to Luckenbach Texas with Waylon and Willie and the boys
This successful life we're livin' got us fueding
like the Hatfield and McCoys
Between Hank Williams pain songs, Newberry's train songs
and blue eyes cryin' in the rain out in Luckenbach Texas
ain't nobody feelin' no pain

Side-effect of trip to Luckenbach... that song stuck in our heads since then!!!
